“An honest man here lies at rest,
As e’er God with His image blest:
The friend of man, the friend of truth;
The friend of age, and guide of youth:
Few hearts like his, with virtue warm’d,
Few heads with knowledge so inform’d:
If there’s another world, he lives in bliss;
If there is none, he made the best of this.”
Robbie Burns
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of James Millar; peacefully at home with family, at the age of 83.
Beloved husband of Dawn (Griffith - married in Winnipeg in 1961) and loving father of Bruce (Lucie Manoni) and Tanya (Andrew Zadow). Cherished grandfather of Stéphanie, Justin (Nadia DiTrapani), Kayla and Benjamin and great-grandfather to Damian. James is also remembered by his brother Ian (Sheila) in Scotland along with several cousins.
James was born in Sterling, Scotland and grew up in Glasgow. He completed his National Service before coming to Canada in 1958 with the Royal Bank (Calgary). Shortly thereafter, he joined the Royal Canadian Airforce as a navigator and over his career, with family in tow, served in many different places; from Greenwood, N.S. and Summerside, P.E.I., to Sacramento, California, to the US Naval War College in Rhode Island and all the places in between, eventually retiring in Ottawa. With fondest memories of MP&EU and Maritime Command and all the friends made along the way.
Due to the ongoing Covid Pandemic, a private internment will take place at the Beechwood - National Military Cemetery on September 19, 2020. For those wishing to honour James’s memory, heart felt donations would be gratefully received by Parkinson’s Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society.

John Challender
Scotty and I flew on the same Argus crew and, with his family was our next door neighbour in Summerside. Fond memories abound.

Sincere condolences to Dawn and family for your loss. Scottie will long be remembered by us as a great buddy, a fine golf partner (and instructor), and a true gentleman. Rest in peace good friend!
Brian and Sheila Wattie
From early fun and evaluating days in Summerside, through the paper pushing trials at the ’Headshed’ in Ottawa and the industry of Lima 5; Scottie was always a model of positive endeavour with the ever ready humour that got everyone through setbacks. He is missed by us all. To Dawn and family we will remember all the many happier times together.

Dear Dawn and Family,
Mary-Lou and I send our deepest sympathy to you all on the loss of your devoted husband and father. Although our tours together at S’side and G’wood were short it will be hard to forget Scottie’s positive attitude, energy, and forthright nature as leader and mentor of the exceptional team of RO instructors. Disbanding a Neptune Unit, moving from PEI to NS, lock, stock and alligators, and forming 449 Sqn was a daunting task. With his experience, humour and ready smile, Scottie was instrumental in helping make that unique transition to the Argus succeed.
It was a privilege to know Scottie. May he rest in peace.

What a great guy Scottie was - one of a kind, a wonderful friend and colleague, both in the RCAF, and at Canadian Marconi Co. Prudy and I send our deepest sympathy to Dawn and family. He is truly missed.

In or out of uniform, always a smile, always a friend and a mentor. Fondly remembered.

Many will miss this unique and interesting man. He was a friend and mentor to all he met.
Our sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Served with Scottie on the MP and EU CFB Summerside 1976-78. Remembered as one of my more enjoyable postings in 36 year's service due mainly to Scotties leadership , professionalism but above all friendship.
