Passed away peacefully on March 27th with his wife at his side.  He was born on October 16, 1952 in Roberval, Lac St. Jean. Gérald leaves behind his loving wife, Francine, as well as daughter Sylvie (Anand Suresh) and son Rémi (Karolyne Lafortune). Predeceased by parents, Albert and  Marguerite Doucet (Tanguay)  and brother, Lionel, of Desbiens, Lac St Jean, QC.  He will be fondly remembered by many friends and colleagues from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

He attended school in Desbiens and completed High School in Alma, Quebec. He later studied at the University of Regina, Saskatchewan from 1980-83.

He joined the RCMP in 1972, travelling throughout Canada as part of the Centennial Review, and taking numerous transfers, retiring after almost 40 years’ service, finishing at the rank of Superintendent. He thoroughly enjoyed his career and all the people he met and worked with. He was married in Yarmouth, NS on June 10, 1977 to Francine Pothier and had two children.

He was an avid hockey player all his life, playing Junior A hockey with Mario Tremblay prior to Mario going to the NHL. He loved all hunting, particularly wild turkey. His face would light up as he approached turkey season in April. He also enjoyed fishing with friends. Over the years he was involved as a Cub Leader, and was President of the RCMP Ski 1200 Ski Club.

Loving brother to Céline Doucet, St Romuald, Quebec; Gilles Doucet (Georgette Babin), Charlesbourg, Quebec; Pryscilla Doucet (Ephrem Melançon), Quebec; Estelle Doucet (Claude Morin), Rimouski; Lorraine Doucet, Roberval, Lac St Jean, Quebec; Claude Doucet (Diane Bouvier) Lévis, Quebec; Gilbert Doucet (Linda Côté), Desbiens, Lac St Jean, Quebec; Jean-Guy Doucet (Karine Pâquet), Sherbrooke, Quebec; Edith Doucet (Louis Hargreaves), Brossard, Quebec.

A Memorial Service will be planned for a later date at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood ave).  In lieu of flowers, pleased consider making a donation to The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation (https://pmhf3.akaraisin.com/Donation/Event/DonationInfo.aspx?seid=12692&mid=50 in Gérald’s honour.

Il était un frère aimant envers Céline Doucet, Saint-Romuald, Québec; Gilles Doucet (Georgette Babin), Charlesbourg, Québec; Pryscilla Doucet (Ephrem Melançon), Québec; Estelle Doucet (Claude Morin), Rimouski; Lorraine Doucet, Roberval, Lac Saint-Jean, Québec; Claude Doucet (Diane Bouvier) Lévis, Québec; Gilbert Doucet (Linda Côté), Desbiens, Lac Saint-Jean, Québec; Jean-Guy Doucet (Karine Pâquet), Sherbrooke, Québec; Edith Doucet (Louis Hargreaves), Brossard, Québec.

Francine, Sylvie, Remi and the entire Doucet family
We extend our deepest condolences to all of you on Gerry's passing. I had the pleasure of working with Gerry in 1984-1985 while he was Detachment Commander at the Arichat RCMP Office in Nova Scotia. Gerry was a very kind, caring, compassionate person with a heart of gold and a very dedicated family man. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Please know that you are in our thoughts and in our prayers at this very difficult time. RIP Gerry

Though I knew Gerry for a short time over the last few years, I've always looked up to him as a professional and gentleman. Someone who truly cared about others and doing things right. He will be sadly missed and never forgotten.
