It is with great sadness we announce the death of our beloved sister, Janet.  She died unexpectedly but peacefully in one of her favourite places, the library, on Saturday, December 21, 2019.  Born in Arvida, Quebec on April 6, 1945, Janet was the first child of the late John and Doris (Maxwell) Harris.  She is survived by her siblings Margaret (Peggy), Peter (late Rachel) and David.

Janet was a brilliant and accomplished individual.  A graduate of Carleton University, she had a varied work life ending with her own cat sitting business, Cat-n-Caboodle.  She was an outspoken supporter of human rights.  A member of the Society of Friends for over thirty years she was active in many social and political groups.  Her many published letters are a testament to this.

Her love of four-legged creatures was shown not only by her support for local and international groups but by rescuing and helping many abandoned cats.

Janet was world-wise and had travelled extensively in Europe, South America and the Far East.  She was fearless in her pursuit of knowledge of other cultures.  She made many friends during her travels.

Janet was smart, witty and independent in spite of declining health and constant pain she was out every day to her favourite places in the Glebe – The Wild Oat and Bridgehead.  People admired her courage to keep going and enjoy life.

We express our gratitude to her many friends at The Green Door (especially Patricia and Claude), The Wild Oat, and Ottawa Public Library (Ottawa South).   Their kindness and support for Janet is appreciated.

To honour Janet and a life-well-lived please send contributions to Ottawa Cat Rescue Network, Ottawa Public Library or groups supportive of human rights.

May you have endless cheese sticks in the beyond.
Thanks for your fighting spirit, constant love of wild oat food.
We won’t forget you. You are missed.
