Gloria J. MacLeod, 81, of Kanata, Ontario, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2019, at the Ottawa General Hospital. She was surrounded by her family and went peacefully in her sleep.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Malcolm (Mel) MacLeod, daughter Michele Casey (Paul Bergeron), son James (Jim) MacLeod (Stephanie), granddaughter Samantha Casey (Brian Cantin), and grandsons William MacLeod and Connor MacLeod.
Born in 1938 in Gosport, England, to Winifred (Winnie) Baker (nee Shakespeare) and George Baker, Gloria is predeceased by siblings Michael, Trevor and Mervyn Baker.
During 23 years, as a partner in Mel's career, she actively participated in military, diplomatic, community and recreational activities at home and abroad.
An active member of the Kanata community, Gloria participated in the Mall Walking Club and volunteered at the monthly Senior’s Bingo, Hazeldean Mall. An avid quilter and knitter, Gloria belonged to the Ottawa Valley Quilters' Guild, Richmond Quilters’ Guild and Ottawa Knitting Guild; and was an active supporter of Victoria’s Quilts Canada, whose mission is to provide handmade quilts to comfort people with cancer. She could be found whiling away many an hour pattern shopping, knitting and chatting at Yarn’s Ewe’ll Love. Dinner and a Movie with friends was also a regular monthly activity. Gloria exemplified the concept of “retirement done right” with her myriad of activities and clubs.
Family and friends are invited to visit at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Ave, Ottawa, on November 30, 2019 from 11 until the time of a Celebration of Gloria’s Life in the Sacred Space at 1 o’clock. Burial in the National Military Cemetery of the Canadian Forces at Beechwood and a reception will follow.
A caring spirit, ready smile and open arms, Gloria is going to be deeply missed by both family and many, many friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Canadian Cancer Society, Diabetes Canada, or any other charity of your choice.

Dear Malcolm and Jimmy, Thinking about you a lot over the past week, since the passing of Gloria. We are very sorry for your loss. She was always so much fun to be with at a family gathering....such a great smile. I will always remember her hospitality in London, way back in the '70's when I was bouncing around the U.K.
I know she was a great wife and mother and grandmother to your family.
Much love, Ruth, Rick and Claire

Gloria always brought a smile to us all,
and will be remembered for all the happy times we had over many, many years,
She will live on in all our hearts forever.
Her kindness was felt regardless of the distance.
We will remember her as a kind, generous and a very talented lady,
always with a funny story to tell and extremely proud of her family.
Gloria will be greatly missed by all in the Baker family in England.
