David passed away quietly in Ottawa on October 1st in his 90th year.  Predeceased by his beloved wife Mary.  Their devotion to each other and shared interests, especially in music, created a strong bond.  David was the quiet one.  He hailed from Brantford in, as he wryly put it, darkest Ontario.  After graduation from McGill, he joined the Public Service of Canada as an immigration officer.  David’s patience, empathy and good judgment served him well in the selection of those who were most likely to succeed in Canada.  After a long and productive time in immigration, David joined the International Division of Canada Post, which provided opportunities for more travel and enlightenment.  David was a stickler for detail both in his work environment and outside it.  Over the years he became extremely knowledgeable about classical music, wine and fast cars enabling him to discuss these subjects with great confidence.  He also had an appetite for foreign languages learning as much as he could, for example, of Dutch and Norwegian.  David’s fount of knowledge was enhanced by a remarkable memory:  he easily recalled facts and dates forgotten by others.  Sadly, a gradual slide into dementia made it increasingly difficult for him to express his thoughts, even as they remained locked away in his mind.  As his condition worsened, David was a cheerful as possible, while dedicated staff at the Ravines Retirement Residence provided caring and kind support.  As David requested, there will be no funeral or service; donations in his memory may be made to the Ottawa Chamber Music Society, 4 Florence Street (Suite 201), Ottawa K2P 0W7
