McKitrick, Andrew Robert (Bob) of Espanola, passed away on December 9th, 2018, at the Espanola Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Loving son of the late Alexander and Aileen (Brown) McKitrick of Orangeville. Beloved husband and soul mate of June (Gomme) for 64 years. Loving father of David (Eliméne) of Kingston, and Kerry (Reno) of Ottawa. Dear puppa of Alexander, Michael, Christopher, Elisabeth and Kaitlyn. Dear brother of Murray, Helen (Bruce) Matheson and Victor (all predeceased).
Bob was a World War II veteran having served as a pilot in the R.C.A.F. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 70 years. Bob was a member of the Espanola Masonic Lodge for 50 years. He was a past master of the Espanola Masonic Lodge and past master of #13 District OPP Masonic Degree Team. Bob served as an OPP officer from 1952 to 1987, and was the recipient of the OPP long service and good conduct medal, as well as the police exemplary service medal and bar.
Bob always enjoyed sports and was a lifelong Toronto Maple Leafs fan. He played professional lacrosse in his younger years and was a member of the 1950 All Ontario champion North Peel Redmen. Bob also loved music and movies.
Bob lived a full and happy life, and he valued family, friends and independence. He was most proud of his family, and cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jennifer and Tonya of Bayshore Home Health, to Dr. Trebb, Dr. Bora and to the nurses and doctors of the Espanola Regional Hospital, for their care and compassion.
A private family service was held. Internment of ashes in the National Military Cemetery in Ottawa will take place in the spring.
